Psychedelic patterns are back from the 70s as celebs go wild for loud bikinis

Retro fashion is all the rage at the moment. Shag haircuts, whale tails and velour bikinis are among the crazes to make comebacks recently – and now, a 70s trend has re-surged in popularity. The era was defined by psychedelic patterns including swirls, shapes and geometric patterns. But to put a sexy 2021 twist on the old favourites, the designs have been printed onto tiny bikinis. Kylie Jenner is among the celebrities to rock the vintage look in recent months. The 23-year-old reality TV star flaunted her curves in a groovy two-piece that consisted of a lime green triangle top and matching skirt.

She styled the look with tinted sunglasses and hoop earrings to add to the retro vibe. Then to keep the attire suitable for the beach, she gave her hair casual waves and applied nude lipstick to her pout. A similar outfit was worn by influencer Isabel Raad. The Instagrammer looked stunning in a two-piece that was covered in blue and white swirls. Her 70s-inspired triangle top came with a matching skirt, whic she accessorised like Kylie with sunglasses and hoop earrings.

So do you want to try the trend? You’ll be pleased to know you don’t need a celebrity’s bank balance to replicate the popular looks. Budget-friendly retailers like PrettyLittleThing, ASOS and Topshop are selling similar garments. If you want to be super feminine, we’d recommend Topshop’s 70s floral print bikini. You can buy the top and bottoms for £9.99 each, which works out as less than £20 for the full cossie.

The online retailer has also used the print on items like a sheer maxi skirt, which pairs perfectly with swimwear. Alternatively, head to ASOS to snap up its handkerchief top bikini. It retails from £29 and has the wavy pattern that celebs can’t get enough of.
